We held our annual Memorial Mini Tournament on Thursday 26th October at The Alan Higgs Centre to honour our friends and former players that have sadly passed away, Lee Whitehead, Jackie Manning and Danny Adlington. At the well attended event a minute’s round of applause was held before kick off.
Four 7 a-side teams were selected at random to compete in three 20 minute matches with trophies for the winners and runners up at stake.
After some very good and sporting play The Red team emerged as worthy winners with two victories and a loss giving them 6 points while the undefeated Orange team who beat the eventual winners, ended the tournament as runners up with one win, two draws and 5 points. The top goalscorer on the day with a total of 6 goals, 5 in one game, was our own England international, Dave Marriott who was outstanding throughout.
The play was followed by tea, coffee, cake and a good old natter in the cafe afterwards.
A huge thanks to the organisers, Russ and Kim and all those players and supporters that came along to make this event such a success. A total of £195 was raised by the raffle and that will be added to and donated to a local charity.
