About Us, Session Times and Membership Info.

Coventry & District Walking Football Club is set up for men over the age of 50 and women over 35 who have differing footballing abilities and who wish to take part in the slower-paced version of the beautiful game. Taking part and playing promotes physical health and mental well being and provides opportunities to create and develop new friendships. These are the core values that our Club is based upon.

As well as the walking football, we hold regular social events throughout the year for members and their partners and we actively support local charities through various fundraising activities and events.

We play at the Alan Higgs Centre, Allard Way, in Coventry on a 3G pitch outdoors but have the facility of using the full-size indoor 3G pitch in the winter months when the weather is bad. The summer months tend to run from 1st May to 30th September and the winter months run from 1st October to 30th April.

We hold 4 friendly playing sessions per week. They are:

MONDAY & THURSDAY mixed sessions for men and women from 11am to 12 noon, outdoors during the summer and autumn months and indoors during the winter months. All abilities welcome. Tea/coffee, biscuits and cake in the on site cafe afterwards.

TUESDAY evenings for women only from 8pm to 9pm on the indoor 3G pitch. All abilities welcome.

FRIDAY evenings for men only from 8pm to 9pm on the indoor pitch in the winter months and outdoors in the summer and autumn months. All abilities welcome.

The Monday and Thursday sessions normally attract between 24-32 players which allows us to play 4 teams of 6 to 8 a side round robin games on reduced sized pitches. After these sessions we invite all players to the on-site café for tea/coffee, cake, biscuits and chat. This proves to be extremely popular with all players. The men only evening sessions is arranged with those who are still working in mind and attract between 18-20 players. The women only sessions on Tuesday evenings started in late August 2024. Due to Lottery funding it is free of charge at the moment. The group is continuing to grow in number as more female players join in the sessions.

For those players looking for more competitive play, we are the only club in the Coventry and surrounding area to field men’s teams in age groups over 50s, 63s and 67s in the Birmingham County Walking Football League (BCWF). We would hope to field a Women's team in the future too.

The cost of Club Membership is £10 per annum and just *£3 per session. However, you are most welcome to come along, check it out free of charge for the first couple of sessions and then if you wish to 'give it a go' and carry on, then you will be most welcome to join as a member of our friendly club.
*Women sessions free of charge until further notice.

If you wish to extend your playing career or you just want to put your boots back on and join like-minded individuals who just wish to play at a slower pace, then you are most welcome.

All new members on joining agree to our Club Constitution and Club Code of Conduct. These can be found and read under the heading of Club Information on the menu.

CLUB MEMBER TESTIMONIALS

Mike:
"Taking up walking football has given me a whole new lease of life in more ways than one. Being able to play football albeit at a slower pace, from my 60s into my 70s in such a healthy, mentally stimulating environment has been a massive boost. It has also opened up a whole new social circle; strangers have become team-mates, drinking buddies, quiz participants and genuinely close friends.
Even more significantly, joining the walking football group probably saved my life. An encouragement to raise awareness of prostate cancer and for club members to have regular PSA blood tests, led me to receiving the diagnosis of early stage prostate cancer. Sharing this mind-numbing news with some fellow members who had already gone through a similar experience and being guided and supported by them throughout my successful treatment was something for which I am eternally grateful".

Steve:
"I started playing walking football in 2017. I have made many new friends who have helped me realise just how much I was missing playing and the banter that is so special".

Barry:
"I would never have imagined playing any version of football at the age of 70 and with a great social group of people that give me confidence and support".

Lol:
I was introduced to walking football in 2015 and it has been a life changer for me making new friends and re-connecting with old ones. The old skills have returned and I have the choice of just playing social football or competitive league football. The best things are I have shed 4 stone and I am feeling fit and healthy and enjoy a good social life”.
